Donation Management Team Announced for Galveston

Galveston - Galveston Island survived Hurricane Ike, but the damage the storm left in its wake has devastated many islanders’ homes and businesses.

Generous offers of aid and assistance have poured in from around the state and the nation.  City officials are busy coordinating relief efforts with local, state, and federal agencies. All volunteer teams, donation of tangible items such as water, gift cards, and cleaning supplies, as well as offers of donated services such as construction and roofing will be organized through the city’s central management team.

Pets
The Galveston Island Humane Society is accepting monetary donations, pet food, and pet supplies to support, feed, and shelter all animals rescued after Hurricane Ike. For more information, please visit http://www.galvestonhumane.org as well as http://www.hspca.org.

Business Assistance
The Galveston Economic Development Partnership has opened a temporary office in the lobby of the Galveston County Justice Center, 601 54th Street.  They are available to meet with displaced business owners and discuss available assistance programs.  To reach them, please call (409) 935-1408.  The Galveston Chamber of Commerce has established an office in Arkansas.  Business owners can contact president Gina Spagnola, Chamber President at ginaspagnola22@yahoo.com
