Ruby Lee Bertolino Roberts, 76, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at MainlandMedicalCenter in Texas City.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 30th, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque with Father Niall Nolan as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at CalvaryCatholicCemetery in Galveston.
The family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Monday, September 29th, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. A vigil service will conclude the evening at 7:00 pm, led by Father Niall Nolan.
Ruby was born April 14, 1932, in Galveston, TX. She attended SacredHeartParochial School and DominicanHigh School. Ruby was an avid bowler at Bowl Lanes, Seahorse Bowl, and Island Bowl, and she served for 14 years as the bowling coach for AJBC junior bowlers. She was so proud when she picked up the Big 4.
She was active in the Treasure Ball sewing outfits including her daughter’s train along with her sister Chris. She was a faithful parishioner of SacredHeartChurch for many years and was always helping the Catholic schools her children and grandchildren attended including being president of SacredHeartSchool and head room mother at both SacredHeartSchool and O’Connell High School and always helping with bazaars including dressing all dolls for the doll booth. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always ready to help anyone that was in need. She was known for her famous Italian sauce. Ruby and her brother Charley Boy would fight over who could make the best sauce. She was loved by many and appreciated by all.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Bertolino, Sr. and Mabel Bertolino; and 18 brothers and sisters, including her twin brother, Henry Bertolino.
Ruby will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Charles L. Roberts, Jr.; daughter, Theresa Ramirez and husband, Jimmie; daughter, Robin Dundee and husband, Danny; and especially missed by her grandchildren who called her Me Maw: Lance Fenske, Anthony Dundee, and Anissa Dundee; also her brother, Eddie Bertolino and wife, Linda; sister, Christine Welsh; and over 100 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dan Dundee, Jimmie Ramirez, Lance Fenske, Anthony Dundee, Bobby Quiroga, and Lance Bertolino. Dr. E. S. McLarty will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to thank Texas Home Health Care especially Flo Williams for the special care given to Ruby and to the Geriatric Clinic at UTMB headed by Dr. Loretta Grumbles.
