John Gately, Sr.
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

John (Jack) Gately, age 79, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at his home. 
 
Jack’s family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Wednesday, October 1st, at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.  A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm, led by Deacon Robert Standridge.
 
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Thursday, October 2nd, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque with Father Brendan Murphy as Celebrant.  Burial will follow the service at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
 
Jack was born January 18, 1923, to Michael F. and Philomena Hugo Gately in West Point, Nebraska.  He has lived in Galveston County since 1934 and retired from Southern Union Gas Company in 1985. Jack was a veteran of World War II. Javomg served as a B-17 Tailgunner with the 8th Army Airforce Command.  He was a member of the VFW Post 880 and the 100th BG Association.
 
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn C. Scott Gately; brothers, Thomas J., Vincent A., James B. (Jimmy), and Robert F. Gately.
 
He is survived by his daughters, Mary C. Gately, of Chicago, IL; and Theresa A. Gately of Clear Lake, TX; son, John Gately, Jr., of Jennette, PA; brothers, Michael F. and Martin Gately; sister, Agnes (Mrs. Charles) McLawchlin, all of Santa Fe, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Pallbearers will be John Gately, Jr., James Gately…..
 
The family wishes to thank the nursing and medical staff of Clear Lake Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jack’s name to the American Red Cross Hurricane Ike Relief Fund or to any charity related to Hurricane Ike.
