On October 4, 1941, a beautiful baby girl was born unto the late Henry James, Sr. and Eunice Lazare Carrie accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She attended public school in Galveston and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1959. She also graduate with honors from the Galveston County Memorial Hospital Nursing Program. She was a retired from UTMB as an LVN after 30 years of service and also received the Outstanding Nurse of the Month award. Carrie was also was a cosmetologist. Serving where she could, she also was a member of the Elegant Lady Club and Sarah Court #1 of the Heroine of Jericho.
She married the late James R. Franklin, Sr. and to that union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Johns; a brother, Henry James, Jr..
On September 10, 2008, Carrie received her reward of eternal rest and leaves precious memories with her son: James R. “Jimmie” Franklin, Jr. and wife, Devon; grandson: James R “Trey” Franklin III; step grandchildren; Ja'Vauna and Jordan Johnson devoted sister, Kathy (George) Compton; step brothers, Rev. Peter; Paul; Kevin; Holton, and Donald ( Linda) James; step sisters: Valada; Brenda; Laura; Elva; Dorothy (Bernard) Thibodeaux, and Annie (Kevin) Hall; aunt Emily Shannon; great aunt, Ida Simmons; nephews: Walter (Betty); Lesile, Jr.; Tyson; Damon; George, Jr.; Gregory; Eric and Cris; nieces: Karron(Steve) Brandon; Denise Johns; Cynthia Wilson; great nieces; Ariel, Ieshia; Kawarna (Tyree); Kenneda; devoted cousins: Elnora (Christopher) Banks; Stephanie (Terence) Packer; Christopher (Demetrius) Morgan, and Lynette Francis; friends: Irella (Raymond); Sharon Adell; Peggie; Lee Jane (Robert);Pennie (Rev. Isaac) Wrenn; Marie; James and Barbara Steadham; Camilla; Mary Ellen; Cecila Franklin and Ernestine Shakoor; host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2008, followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. at the Avenue L Baptist Church (2612 Ave L) Rev. Eddie R. Johnson host pastor, and her pastor Rev. Lorenzo Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
