Delores was born January 9, 1946 in Tyler, Texas to Henry Lee and Ruby Mae Rushing.

Delores and her family moved to Galveston when she was six years old. She attended public schools. She later married the father of her three children, Tripo Popovich. Together, they enjoyed being members of the Galveston Isle-a-Manders Square Dance Club.  Although they would eventually divorce, they remained on excellent terms throughout their lives and throughout their children’s lives. Delores was extremely involved in all of the many activities her children participated in. She never missed a baseball or football game, dance recital, school function, etc. Delores was never short on motivation and encouragement toward her children to become the best they could be at everything.  Her children have always been grateful for the sacrifices she and their father made so they could have all the opportunities they did growing up.

Delores was an employee of the United States Postal Service and served in several capacities in the almost thirty years she worked there. She enjoyed working at the Post Office, along with the many wonderful friends she made throughout the years.  Delores was a member and officer of the United States Postal Union where she spent countless years advocating for the rights of fellow employees. Delores had many hobbies, including playing bingo and at one point, becoming a champion dart player. Delores will be mainly remembered for her love of all animals. She dedicated a large part of her life to caring for, and finding homes for the countless number of unwanted and lost animals in our community.  Her heart was enormous and filled with love for all whom crossed her path.

Delores will be missed greatly by her son, Shawn Popovich and wife, Kitty; daughter, Stephanie Beall and husband, Henry III; and daughter, Cynthia McEldowney.
