Leona Powell Auzenne
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary
Leona Powell Auzenne, 79, received her reward of eternal rest on Friday October 10, 2008, at Hermann Memorial Southeast in Houston.
Leona was born in Arnaudville, LA to Rosenberg and Angelina Charles Powell. She confessed her love for Christ at an early age and became a member of St Catherine Catholic Church in Arnaudville. She united in holy matrimony on October 22, 1949, to Joseph Roy Auzenne and they later moved to Galveston with their three small children to seek better opportunities. She worked at Ursuline Convent and Carver School, as well as providing domestic services throughout the community. In her retirement she cared for her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Gulf Breeze Seniors Resident Center. She enjoyed cooking for and talking to family, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters: Elsie Powell; Alice Richards; Lorena Powell; brothers: Regis, Joseph and Paul Powell; grandchild: Princess Auzenne.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Ouzenne; Arthur (Maria) Auzenne; Betty (Allen) Auzenne; Mildred (Pete) Armstrong, and Walter Auzenne; sisters: Victoria Powell; Corita Taylor, and Marie Powell; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; mother in law: Florence Auzenne; devoted friends: Evelyn Gonzales; Lucy Davis, and Betty; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Visitation will begin at 5PM on Friday, October 17th with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Robert Standridge at the Avenue L Baptist Church (2612 Avenue L).
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 11:00 am at St Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Bok celebrant. Burial will follow.
