James Crowder Funeral Home

Mary Ann Merriman Wagner Mary Ann Merriman Wagner, 75, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at UTMB’s John Sealy Hospital.


The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 25th, at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, with Father Chacko Puthumayil officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston.


The family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm on Friday, October 24th, at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.  A rosary will conclude the evening at 6:30 pm.


Mary Ann was born August 31, 1933 in Galveston, Texas.  She worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and then became an operator at Lipton Tea Company.  She also worked as a receptionist at a local Overhead Garage Door Company. In her later years, Mary Ann owned and operated Wagner’s Beach Rental.  She was a dedicated homemaker and mother of four children, of whom she was very proud.  Mary Ann enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and taking care of her cats, dogs, birds, and squirrels.  She attended St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.


Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Cyrus Clanton Wagner, Sr.; father, Walter Lyons Merriman, Sr.; mother, Evelyn Merriman Phinney; grandparents, Dora and Dominick Giusti; and granddaughter, Tandy Rose Wagner.


She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Roach Henry and husband, J.C.; Mary Cy Wagner Moody and husband, Warren; Patty Wagner Heichelheim and husband, Jay; stepdaughter, Kay Wagner Hidalgo and husband, Burt; son, Cyrus Clanton Wagner, Jr. and wife, Cindy; brother, Walter Lyons Merriman, Jr.; grandchildren, Scotty Heichelheim; Amanda Moody Gaido; Ryan Moody; Lori Wagner; Cyrus Wagner, III, and Andy Wagner; great grandchildren,  Kris, Alexa, and Hanna Heichelheim; Lacey Wagner; and she was looking forward to the birth of her fifth great grandchild.


Pallbearers will be Cyrus Wagner, Jr., Andy Wagner, Warren Moody, Ryan Moody, Scotty Heichelheim, and Michael Gaido.


Honorary pallbearers will be J. C. Henry, Pam Woods, and Mike Trube.
