Mildred Collins

Mildred CollinsMildred Collins, 69, born August 25, 1939, in Palmetto, Louisiana to Albert Collins and Octavia Edwards.  She departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2008.  She attended high school in Palmetto, Louisiana and later moved to Galveston. She was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor’s Easley and J.B. Houston. 

Mildred worked at the Hotel Galvez as a supervisor, Corps of Engineer, Sea Horse Bowling Alley, and private duty. 

She is preceded in death by her father: Albert Collins; son: Marvin Gay Collins; sisters: Ollie Joyce Watkins, Judy Mae Wheeler, and Effie Jean Jones; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Left to cherish memories is her three children, Benjamin Collins (Belinda Compton), Nathan A. Collins, and Anita Lynn Collins; mother, Octavia Edwards; step father, North Charles; sisters: Silver Mae Collins; Frankie Mae Jules; Nettie Jean Benson; Janell Charles Wells, and Michelle Collins; brothers: Leonard T., Charles, Ray Charles (Chanel), Elton, Donald, and Michael Collins; half sisters: Angela, Evelyn, Wyleane, Cassandra, and Wydell Daniels, Jr.; step brothers and sisters: Ronald, Joe, Janice, and Mary Lee Garden, and Eddie St. Roman; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; close special friend, Lawrence Blanks; devoted friends, Ithea Cahee, Lillian Clark, Vina Miller, Rose Pitts, Michelle Jones, Marcella Gallow, Sharon Florence, Naomi Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2008, followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM, at Avenue L Baptist Church,(2612 Avenue L) with Rev. Otha Ross officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
