Pasadena City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve the first reading of a $506,506.60 contract with Beyer Construction LLP for Fairmont Parkway Phase 1, the Pansy/Beltway 8 Project.
Council Member Phil Cayton noted that the goal for the project is to "work day and night" to complete the lanes "prior to peak shopping season."
Mayor Johnny Isbel said he met with the project contractors and was advised that they are "confident" in accomplishing the goal.
Council Member J.J. Isbel said that it is "a good project" and has been needed for a long time.
Mayor Isbel agreed, describing the roadway as one of the "most congested" in the city and said the project will "alleviate this problem."
The city council voted to approve the first reading of an amendment to the Medical Flexible Spending Program to set aside $1,000 in each employee's account to be used within guidelines set by the program.
All other agenda items were approved. All votes were unanimous.
Twenty-five year service awards were presented to Darrell Anthony, Jolenta Court and Elvia Montano.
