Carnes Brothers Funeral Home
Ernest Gonzales age 66 of Galveston died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City with Father Niall Nolan, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 pmwith Jesse Ponce officiating.
Ernest was born January 17, 1942 in Galveston, Texas to Macedonia and Juanita Nieves Gonzales. He was a graduate of the Ball High School class of 1961. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he earned his honorable discharge in 1965. He contiued his service in the Air Force Reserve. He was a retired machinist with Todd’s Shipyard. Mr. Gonzales loved to fish; he enjoyed playing video games and was crazy about the Sci-Fi Channel. He was baptized a Roman Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, survivors include his son, Victor Gonzales; sisters, Virginia Solis and husband Joe and Vicky Martinez all of Galveston, and Rebecca Servantes of Texas City; granddaughter, Angelica Gonzales, sttep grandson, Albert Fernandez, close friends, Joe and Lucy Garza all of Galveston; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Albert Martinez, Christopher Martinez, John Servantes, Jeff Yarborough, Tim Maisey, and Daniel Maisey. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Garza and Joe Solis.
The family would like to thank the staff’s at UTMB, Mainland Medical Center i n Texas City, and the Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston for their wonderful care of Mr. Gonzales over the years.
