‘Tis the Season for Santa-sized Fun, Merry Markets,
Jolly Festivals, Holiday Concerts & Festive Performances!
Beaumont, Texas to Host Downtown Christmas Holiday Festival & Parade 

Beaumont — The City of Beaumont invites everyone to come celebrate the sights and sounds of the holidays with a weekend of festivities Thursday, December 3 – Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Beaumont’s Christmas Holiday Festival & Parade.
Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames personally invites everyone to be a part of the colorful occasion and adds, “Bring your children and experience the holiday magic as we light our magnificent 50-foot Christmas tree.”  She continues by encouraging local businesses to participate as well, noting that the city decided to move forward with the event to help raise the spirits of Beaumont locals as well as citizens in the surrounding areas after Hurricane Ike.  “This year’s theme,” she says “is The Sprit of Southeast Texas.”
Beaumont’s Christmas Holiday Festival and Parade has grown each year and this year is no exception.  Below is a complete schedule of activities taking place in downtown Beaumont, Texas for the fun-filled weekend:
Wednesday, December 3 – Saturday, December 6, 2008:
Junior League of Beaumont Very Merry Main Street Market. 
Located inside the Beaumont Civic Center at 701 Main Street (77701).  Admission is $5.00, which is good for the entire weekend and parking is free.  Plenty of vendors will be on hand to exhibit their dazzling gifts perfect for any Early Bird shoppers list.  Great buys continue throughout the weekend with cocktails and raffles galore to top it off.  Kids have their fair share of holiday cheer, with a Gingerbread House Workshop.  For more information on the Very Merry Main Street Market, call (409) 832-0873 or visit .
Thursday, December 4, 2008:
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. McFaddin-Ward House hosts Eggnog Thursdays. 
Visitors can sample eggnog and tea cookies at the Visitors Center, located at 3rd Street and Calder Avenue (77701).  After, they have the opportunity to tour the first floor of the home, one of the few times the house is open in the evening.  The McFaddin-Ward House was built in 1905-06 in the striking and distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style.  The structure and its furnishings reflect the lifestyle of the prominent family who lived in the house for seventy-five years.  Please note Eggnog Thursdays are: December 4, 11 & 18th.  For additional details, call (409) 832-1906 or visit .
Thursday, December 4 - Sunday, December 7, 2008:
Public Ice Skating at the Julie Rogers Theatre. 
Come enjoy the winter wonderland right in the heart of downtown Beaumont!  The cricKet Ice Skating Rink will be located between the Julie Rogers Theatre (765 Pearl Street, 77701) and the Public Library.  Cost is $3.00/person which includes skates.  Scheduled skate times are as follows:  Thursday & Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 12 Noon - 6:00 p.m.  For more information, call the Beaumont Civic Center at (409) 838-3435, extension 1.
Saturday, December 6, 2008:
7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Pancake Breakfast with Santa. 
The $5.00 all you can eat breakfast is sponsored by Beaumont Lions Club and is located at First Baptist Church, 900 Calder Avenue (77701).  Children 6 and under eat for free!  Kids will also have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa for only $5.00.  Adults can participate in the silent auction.  For more information, contact Kathy Schuffield at (409) 728-9151.
8:30 a.m.—5K Jingle Bell Fun Run. 
Registration for the event starts at 8:30 a.m. and will be located at Crockett Street where participants will be given a map of the route.  Admission is free and the run will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. with walkers and strollers joining at 9:15 a.m.

10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.—Junior League of Beaumont Very Merry Main Street Market.

10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Public Ice Skating at the Julie Rogers Theatre.

2:30 pm - 4:30 p.m.—Children's Holiday Party in Downtown’s Museum District & Blue Santa Toy Drive.  The Art Museum of Southeast Texas, located at 500 Main Street (77701), and the Texas Energy Museum, located at 600 Main Street (77701), will have hands-on art activities for the kids including cookie decorating and ornament making.  Entertainment will be provided from area choirs and the Lamar University Brass Band.  Santa Clause will also make an appearance at the Art Museum to help with a special tree lighting ceremony for the kids.  The City of Beaumont Police Department will be collecting new toys and Christmas items for the cities affected by Hurricane Ike.  Please bring your donations, unwrapped, to the Art Museum grounds where a collection area will be set up.  Contact the Art Museum of Southeast Texas at (409) 832-3432 or the Texas Energy Museum at (409) 883-5100 for more information.  All activities are free.
5:00 p.m.—Official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. 
This free ceremony is located at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, 500 Main Street (77701). Parade Marshals, Elected Officials, and Sponsors will participate.  Holiday hymns will prelude the official lighting of Beaumont’s 50-foot Christmas tree at 5:00 p.m.
6:00 p.m.—Lighted Parade. 
Bundle up and bring a lawn chair to experience the free Beaumont Christmas Holiday Parade that will fill the streets of Orleans, Pearl, Crockett, Main and College with music, lights and candy at 6:00 p.m.  The Patriot Guard Riders will lead the parade this year followed by Memorial High School, Kelly High School and South Park Middle School bands joining in the parade with their own flair of festive music.  The Lone Star Bagpipers, who have always added a sense of ambiance to the joyous occasion, will appear again this year as well.  Vendors will be located along the parade route selling hot links, pretzels, hot chocolate and other food items.  With a history of over 125 float entries in previous years and many entries already confirmed for this year, the parade promises to be the best one yet!  For entry regulations or to register a float, call Jacquetta Walker at the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce at (409) 838-6581.
About the Patriot Guard Riders:  The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation whose primary mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family.

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. 100 Years of History: McFaddin-Ward Open House Tour.
Experience the Yuletide spirit from the past at one of Beaumont's historical homes.  Old-style music, caroling, refreshments, and more from the mid-1800s and the early 1900s.  Events will be held at the McFaddin-Ward House located at 1906 McFaddin Street (77701).  For more information, call the McFaddin-Ward House at (409) 832-1906.
