Hotel Galvez to Host Official Holiday Tree Lighting

GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas– The Hotel Galvez, A Wyndham® Historic Hotel, is the site of the City of Galveston’s Official Tree Lighting Holiday Event on Friday, Nov. 28 from 6 to 8 pm. This holiday event will feature a special visit by Santa Claus, holiday entertainment and a holiday greeting by Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas. 

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the arrival of Santa. Guests are invited to take pictures with Santa, sing carols and enjoy the holiday entertainment.  Performers will include singers from Moody Gardens’ Gift of Christmas Musical and Dickens on The Strand favorites Temple High School Choir, Texas Bagpipe Group and dulcimer player Rex Stanley.  
Executive Chef Jerry Helminski will also unveil his holiday gingerbread display – a gingerbread replica of the Hotel Galvez. Children can also decorate cookies for a minimal donation benefitting the Help4Galveston program dedicated to rebuilding and restoring the city post Hurricane Ike.  
The event is sponsored by Mitchell Historic Properties, Hotel Galvez, the Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership and the City of Galveston. 
Santa Claus will make additional special appearances at the hotel’s new Sunday Brunch with Santa on Dec. 7, 14 and 21. During the month of December, the hotel will host live holiday music on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 10 pm and Sundays from 11 am to 2 pm.

The Hotel Galvez, rated four diamonds by AAA, is a National Trust Historic Hotel of America.  The Hotel Galvez is owned by Galveston preservationists Cynthia and George Mitchell and is part of Mitchell Historic Properties. 
The Hotel Galvez, Galveston’s only historic beachfront hotel, was built as a symbol of Galveston’s resilience following the Great Storm of 1900.  Following Hurricane Ike, the hotel reopened to the public on Oct. 15.  The hotel sustained minimal damage from Hurricane Ike.
