Melvin J. Southern, Sr.
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary
Melvin J. Southern, Sr., 55, received his reward of eternal rest on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Courtyard Nursing Home in Houston.
Melvin was born July 16, 1953, in Galveston, and where he attended public school and was a1971 graduate of Ball High School. He was very active in his community, serving with many organizations. He w as a member of Cathedral of Faith Market Street Baptist Church where he served as a usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Southern and Clara Lee Kennison.
He leaves his life’s legacy with his children, Melvin J. Southern, Jr. and Mahogany Southern both of Galveston; brothers: Major Southern of Hitchcock, and Clarence Southern of Galveston; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
Visitation will begin at 5 PM on Friday November 21st, followed by a wake form 7-8 PM at Avenue L Baptist Church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday November 22nd at 11:00 AM also at the church with Rev E. R. Johnson officiating, and Rev. Craig Holloway of Cathedral of Faith, eulogist. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
