Elzie Pauline Rourke
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Elzie Rourke passed from us on Nov. 28, 2008 at the age of 85.  She was born Dec. 28, 1922 in La Marque, Texas to Stewart John Mosso and Viola Agnes Daniels. They moved to Galveston where Elzie attended Galveston public schools and was a lifelong resident. On March 29, 1940 she was married to her high school sweetheart, Joseph Edward Rourke, Sr. (deceased 4-21-71) in Galveston, Texas.  To this union were born six children:  Ann, Myrna, Saundra, Joseph Jr, Donald, and Claudia Rourke.  After high school Elzie worked for the U.S. Corp of Engineers in the Blueprint office. Several children later, she worked side by side with her husband in the J. E. Rourke Plastering Co. They were both proud of his work. They were very active in the National Lath and Plastering Association. Elzie enjoyed their many travels in the US and abroad.  The joy of her life was (her) family: her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Maw Maw, Granny and G.G. She will be sadly missed.

Elzie was preceded in death by her father, Stewart John Mosso; mother, Viola Agnes Branch; stepfather, Albert B. Branch; loving husband of 31 years, Joseph Edward Rourke, Sr.; son, Donald Raymond Rourke; and son-in-law, Wade K. Wallace.

John Mosso and wife, Bessalea, of Galveston; five grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; special family member, Juanita Carter; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Elzie’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 2nd, at St. Patrick Catholic Church.  A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm, led by Father John Bok, OFM.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 3rd, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father John Bok, OFM, as Celebrant.  Entombment will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson.

Pallbearers will be Glen Swearingen, Joel Dower, Wade Wallace, Pete Kovacevich, Gerald Wallace, Chris Wallace, and Travis Wallace.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Turner Geriatric Center who so lovingly cared for Elzie during these last two years.
