John Charles Allen, Jr.
E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary

LAMARQUE - John Charles Allen, Jr. also known as “Butch” was born on May 21, 1942 in Galveston, TX to John Charles, Sr. and Lucille Twine Allen.

John graduated from Central High School in 1960, where he was a member of the baseball and football team. He was employed with Union Carbide/Dow Chemical in Shipping/Receiving for 32 years. Also recently, he had been employed with Durham Transportation for 2 ½  years as a bus driver.

He accepted Christ at an early age. John was a faithful member and a willing worker of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served actively as a member of the Male Chorus, Usher Board, and dutiful Christian. He also participated in the Galveston gathering of Central. John had a passion for photography. You could often find him at any function with a camera in hand.

John received his reward of eternal rest on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Brenda Gardner.

Left to cherish memories are his children: Debra Alliniece; Derrick Allen; Paula Allen, and Kristy Allen; step-daughter, Carlotta Walker; sister: Natalie Minor; brother, Carlos Minor, grandchildren; wife, Arlene Josey-Allen; aunt and uncle, Rev. Leonard and Margaret J. Bell; special friend, Shaundrekia Yell a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Central Class of 1960 and many friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, December 5, 2008, at 12 Noon with Rev. James Brown as host pastor and his pastor, Rev. Norris D. Burkley, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

Visitation will begin today, December 4th at 5 PM, followed by a wake from 7-8 PM. Both services will be held at Greater Barbours Chapel, 7420 FM 1765, Texas City, TX 77591, under the direction of E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary.
