Jose Luis Grimaldo, SrJose Luis Grimaldo, Sr. age 70 of Galveston ended his 4 year battle with cancer Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Vitas Hospice at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital in Houston. Funeral Mass is 10:00 am Friday, January 16, 2009 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Paul Flajole, OFM celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors at the Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm.

Born February 24, 1938 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Jose was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly from 1955 to 1960. While in the service he enjoyed boxing and was on the U.S. Navy Drill Team. After his military service he began his study to be an electrician working at Todd’s Shipyard for 10 y ears. He then worked and retired after 25 years of service with Union Carbide-Dow Chemical in 2002. Jose was very blessed with lots of family and friends and he lived a long and abundant life. He was a strong man who never asked for help but rather devoted himself to taking care of others. He was a member of the IBEW, Woodmen of the World, Our Lady of Guadalupe / St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.

Preceded in death by his parents, and 6 siblings, survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Rosalba Grimaldo of Galveston; sons, Jose Luis Grimaldo, Jr. of Galveston, Mario Alberto Grimaldo and wife Mary of Katy, and Robert Alonzo Grimaldo, Sr. and wife Adriana of Waller; sister, Esther Ybarra of Del Rio; brother, Jose Armando Grimaldo of College Station; grandchildren, Paul, Eric, Krystal, Robert Grimaldo, Jr., and Aliana Grimaldo; great grandchildren, Nikko, Julie, Heidi, and Chloe; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers are Paul Chazarreta, Eric Chazarreta, Adalberto Camarillo, Jimmy Day, Tony Garcia and Robert Grimaldo.

Jose L. Grimaldo will be missed by many, forever in our hearts, and always a part of our lives.
