Elijah Louis O’Neal

 Elijah Louis O’Neal, 72, transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Mainland Medical Center, in Texas City.
Elijah was born May 1, 1936, in Washington, LA to the late Roscoe and Victoria O‘Neal. He was a very hard worker, and worked for many years as a contract laborer, always supporting his children.
Elijah was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia O’Neal; parents; siblings, Henry; August; Hudson ; Isaac; Irma Lee, and Ida O’Neal.
He leaves to cherish memories, with his children, Elijah Smith, Jessie Smith, Angela Jones, Anthony O’Neal, Troy O’Neal, Nicole Petteway (James), and Tamika O’Neal; grandchildren, Shavon Saxton; Crystal O’Neal; Elijah Smith, Jr.; Jared Smith; Troy Roberson; Anjayla Bowie; James Petteway IV, and Nia Petteway; 7 great grandchildren; step son Leslie Gerard; devoted niece, Betty Harrison; devoted friend Charles Etta Sellers; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Avenue L Baptist Church, followed by a service celebrating the life of Elijah at 11 AM, with Pastor Nathaniel Brown, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
