Gladys Bernice Franklin CampbellGladys Bernice Franklin Campbell peacefully slept away into the arm of Jesus on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Mainland Medical Center.

Bernice as she was known, was born on January 31, 1927, in Live Oak, TX to the union of Wash and Bertha Jones Franklin. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the First Union Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher board and with the Minister and Deacon Wives auxiliary. She retired after 35 years with GISD as a Food Service Manager, and was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho-Sarah Court #1. Her hobbies through out the years were baking, sewing and traveling with her grandchildren, her pride and joy.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Franklin, Jr.. She leaves her legacy of life with her devoted husband of 62 years, Hubert Campbell; daughters, Alice Gatson (Leonard) and Rosa Crooks all of Galveston; grandchildren, Rosalyn Gatson and Christopher Gatson (Yalonda) both of Houston, and Adrian Crooks, Jr. (Anquanette) of Fresno, TX; great granddaughters, Alexis M. Crooks and Kerrigan K. Gatson; sister, Jimmie Lee Turner (Joseph) of Las Vegas, NV; God son, Marcus Ford; special sister in law, Willie Lee Franklin of Live Oak; special nephew, Robert Campbell (Ruby) of Atlanta, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, in-laws, friends and her First Union Baptist Church Family.

Visitation will be held at the First Union Baptist Church from 9-10:30 AM on Monday, January 19, 2009, followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David L. Everson, Sr. officiating. She will be laid to rest in Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
