TEXAS CITY- Robert L. Phillips, Sr. , 79, received his reward of eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2009, at Mainland Medical Center.
“R.L.’ as he was known by all, was born March 11, 1929, in Needville, TX to Austin and Katie Hobbs Phillips. He was resident of Hitchcock for 60 years. He was a retired laborer from Laborer Union Local #116 and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church and was baptized by Pastor S D Siverand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ramone, Elmore, and James Phillips, and sisters, Cassie Lawson; Eva Basquez; Willie Gates, and Nellie Ray Williams.
He leaves precious memories with his devoted wife of 58 years, Doretha Phillips; son, Robert L. Phillips, Jr.; daughters, Dorothea Senegal and Carolyn Scott all of Texas City; ten grandchildren;15 great grandchildren; brother, Bennie Phillips of Hitchcock; sisters in law, Katherine (Samuel) Jeffery; Josephine Smith; Lillie Barrow, and Betty Rogers and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, January 31st followed by a service celebrating his life at 12 Noon at Galilee Baptist Church in Hitchcock with Pastor S.D. Siverand officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
