GALVESTON - On April 6, 1948, a baby boy was born to Simon Peter and Hattie Telford Otems, whom they named Marvin Keith. Marvins' life journey ended January 24, 2009, as he slipped quietly into eternal rest at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.
Marvin, who was better known as “Key” to all that knew him, attended public school in Galveston and was known for his exploits on the basketball court. He was a member of the Central High School class of 1966. “Key” worked as a longshoreman on the wharves of Galveston.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert, Sr.; Raphael; Simon, Jr.; Gerald, and John Otems, Sr.; sisters, Lurelia Williams.
Marvin leaves precious memories with his wife, Beverly Otems of La Marque; daughters Monica Evans of Port Arthur; Felecia Otems of Dayton, and Ago Newton of Caldwell; sons, Robert Jackson; Ronald Murray, and Michael Murray of LaMarque; brother, Lawrence Otems of San Francisco; sisters, Dixie Pines of Galveston; Barbara Williams, and Eula Duncan of San Francisco; Carol Siverand of Chapel Hill; Azie Biggers of Texas City, and his twin Marva Otems of Fort Worth. Closet to his heart to cherish his memories are his 26 grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, January 31st followed by a funeral service service at 2:00 PM at Avenue L Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Simpson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
