Fred Newton FranklinGALVESTON - Fred Newton Franklin, 88, of Beaumont, formerly of Galveston, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at Beaumont Health Care Center in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 am at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas with Rev. Grayson Glass  officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the funeral home.

Fred was born October 15, 1920 in Denison, Texas to Issac Newton Franklin and Addie Briley Franklin. He grew up in Hill County, moving to Beaumont, Texas where he joined the U. S. Army during WW II. He earned his honorable discharge October 25, 1945. He moved back to Beaumont where he met and married the love of his life Aggie Wells who passed away in April of 2007. They had two sons, Ricky and Michael who both passed away at the age of 38. He retired from Sears as Manager of the Paint Department in 1983 after more than 40 years of service.
           
Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years, Aggie Wells Franklin, sons, Rick and Mike Franklin, grandson, Ian Franklin, and a sister, Mildred Moss, Fred is survived by his grandson, Jason Franklin and wife, Jennifer of Los Angeles;  sisters, Bess Dickson and Pauline Threet both of Beaumont; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Steve Marsh, Todd Adams, Jr., Broc Adams, Jason Franklin, Paul Marques, Sr. and Paul Marques, Jr.
