Bereavement Support Groups
What is grief? It’s a time of our lives that none of us want to experience, but which we all have to face at one time or another. Despite its inevitability, many find that grief can be a difficult subject to talk about. No one wants to face the fact that the death of a loved one changes everything; that in many ways, life will never be the same again.
Those who love us don’t want us to suffer; they want everything to “return to normal,” and may try to rush us through the grieving process. The task to those who are grieving is finding a new normal, a process that can take much longer than anyone could anticipate.
That’s the time when Hospice Care Team’s Grief Support groups can be most helpful. In order to fully serve the needs of those who are grieving throughout the Bay Area, we will offer our 8-week “Hands Together” groups in Galveston, Clear Lake, Pearland, Dickinson, and Lake Jackson this fall.
On Tuesdays, beginning March 3rd, three group series will be offered. Our Pearland groups will be returning to Trinity Oaks Senior Living Community from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. In addition, our Dickinson groups will be meeting at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., followed by our Clear Lake groups at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church from 7:00 to 8:30 on Tuesday evenings.
On Wednesdays beginning March 4th, the groups will be offered in two different locations. In the mornings, the Galveston group will return to Edgewater Retirement Center at Moody House from 10:30 to noon. On Wednesday afternoons, an additional group will be offered in Brazoria County, with our Lake Jackson groups meeting at the Carriage Inn retirement community from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Each group series is open to anyone in the community who has had a loss, regardless of whether their loved one was on hospice service. Our groups are offered free of charge, but as space is limited it is recommended that you call to register in advance.
