Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Dovie Olive CokinsDovie Olive Cokins, 83, of Galveston passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Pasadena Care Center in Pasadena, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas with Brother Arnold Martin officiating. Burial will follow at  Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Dovie was born February 17, 1926 in Rayville, Louisiana to George and Donie Spurlock. She moved to Galveston in 1944 and worked for Lipton Tea Company. She met and married George Cokins in 1954 and started raising her family. Dovie had a strong faith in God and was an active member of Abundant Life Church in Galveston. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved fishing on the Flagship Pier and taking care of her family. 

Preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Cokins, Dovie is survived by her husband of 55 years, George Cokins, Sr.; sons, Ronald Cokins, Sr., George Cokins, Jr. and David Cokins of Galveston; daughter, Yvonne Cokins;  grandchildren, Ronald, Jr., Cody, Kristin and Hailey Cokins; numerous other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Cokins, Jr., Cody Cokins, Richard Cokins and Randy Spann.
