Jose Martinez (Baltierra) SanchezJose Martinez (Baltierra) Sanchez, age 89, of Galveston was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, March 16, 2009 at his residence in Galveston. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galveston with Father John Paul Flajole, OFM celebrant. The family will receive visitors at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm.

Jose was born September 20, 1919 in Concepcion Del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico to Antonio Martinez and Catalina Baltierra. His passions first and foremost were for his family and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed long walks on the seawall and was an avid gulf swimmer that could cause a ruckus among the life guards. He was a carpenter by trade with over 30 years experience. He was also retired from Todd’s Shipyard Corporation with over 20 years of service in the carpentry department. He also moonlighted as a self taught geologist. Jose will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Sanchez  is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Catalina Martinez; brother, Roberto Ruiz; sisters, Juanita Sifuentes, Macrina Morton, and Leonar Baltierra. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maria Evangelina Martinez; sons, Jose Maria Martinez, Jr. and wife Dora and Mario Martinez, Sr.; daughter, Manuela Martinez-Solis; his only brother, Jorge Martinez and family of Saltillo, Mexico; brother in law, Felipe Ramirez and family; sisters in law, Nena Villanueva and family, Dolores Lopez and family, Nieves Revilla and family; grandchildren, Shahrokh Solis and wife Lisa, Cristina Martinez, Jose Maria Martinez, III and wife Mirtha, Mario Martinez, Jr. and wife Dianna, Shaymayne Martinez; great grandchildren, Juana Galindo, Breanna Zepeda, Jasmine Mata, Angela Reyes, Sethe Solis, Mauni Solis, Katherine Martinez, Leah Martinez, and Samantha Martinez; numerous other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Sharo Solis, Mario Martinez, Jr., Mario Martinez, Sr., Jose M. Martinez, Jr., Jose M. Martinez, III and Sethe Solis.
