Newly Adopted Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas
Needs Foster Parents, Funds, Donated Items
BAY AREA HOUSTON, Texas
- Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas (GDRST), serving Houston and the surrounding area, has been approved by the state of Texas as an official rescue group and is in the process of becoming recognized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
The rescue group began when a group of passionate Dane owners realized the need for an organization aimed at rescuing members of the breed who have been mistreated, abandoned or may have outgrown their welcome - as many large dog breeds can. The group is now comprised of several members whose mission is to rescue and place the dogs into new homes with individuals who understand the unique needs of the breed and are willing to love them unconditionally.
"A group like ours has been needed in the greater Houston area for some time now," said board member Mandy Pierson. "The fact that individuals with a common passion for the breed can unite to help such a wonderful breed is exciting!"
In addition to the need for permanent adoption homes, foster parents willing to temporarily care for a rescued Dane are a necessity; their participation is vital to evaluating the dog's temperament and helping to place the animal in the right home. Donated items such as leashes, collars, crates and dog food are also needed and appreciated, as is the valuable time and effort put forth by volunteers who share the passion to rehabilitate and place homeless Great Danes.
