Ruth Johanna MaserRuth Johanna Maser, 93, of Galveston, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Carol Payne, in Houston.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 pm, Thursday, March 26th, at First Lutheran Church with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Douglas Guthier.  Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

Ruth was born June 9, 1915, in Galveston, Texas, to Hubert Charles and Anna Rotig Schulz.  She met the love of her life, Kenneth, in her confirmation class at First Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member.  Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She served on the Altar Guild and was an active member of the Church YU League. Ruth was an avid volunteer at the Sons of Hermann Gulf Lodge #46. She loved gardening, cooking, and organizing family events.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Anna; husband of 70 years, Kenneth Leroy Maser; and granddaughter, Kimberley.

She is survived by her son, Ken Maser, Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Tiki Island; daughters, Joan Shaw and husband, Jimmy, of Galveston; Carol Payne, of Houston; Janet Choate and husband, Albert, of Galveston; sister, Dorothy H. Reed, of Marietta, GA; brother, H.C. Schulz, Jr., and wife, Connie, of Galveston; grandchildren: Karen Ruiz and husband, Greg; Carrie LaNata and husband, Art; Stacey Haynes and husband, Timothy; Kelly Pagan and husband, Jack; Krista White and husband, Robby; Todd Burke; and Lindsey Payne; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and close friends.

Pallbearers will be Ruth’s grandsons: Todd Burke, Greg Ruiz, Jack Pagan, Art LaNata, Timothy Haynes, and Robby White.

Ruth’s family would like to extend special thanks to Ruth’s daughter, Carol Payne; and granddaughter, Lindsey Payne, as well as caregiver, Ashley Reeves, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care of Ruth.

Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to First Lutheran Church, 2415 Winnie, Galveston, TX 77550, or to Heart to Heart Hospice, 11000 Richmond Avenue, Suite 685, Houston, TX 77042.
