Matthew Stanford, Jr.Matthew Stanford, Jr., 56, departed this life on Thursday April 2, 2009, at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Matthew was born on February 6, 1953, in Galveston to Matthew, Sr. and Emma Dora Stanford. A proud product of the Galveston school district, Matthew served his country for eleven years in the United State Air Force. A actor, and stage/play writer, he was the founder of the Stage Right Production and Aesop Fables which gave him his greatest joy. He was raised in the Shiloh AME Church and was the Administrative Director at the St. Vincent’s House.

He was preceded in death by his father and leaves behind with a legacy of love, his wife Valada Arleen Stanford; sons Donnie Stanford, Marquis Stanford, and Phillip Stanford; stepsons Michael James, Tyrone Elliot and Marvin Welch; daughter Sonya “Tiger’ Bennett; stepdaughters Melonee and Maia James, Ashley and Leah Elliot; grandchildren Madeline Stanford, Makayla Kennedy, and Branae Arcenaux; his mother Emma Dora Stanford; brothers Michael W. Stanford, Sr. (Veronica); Edward A. Stanford (Rebecca), and Marvin P. Stanford; sisters Millicent Stanford, Ellary L. Stanford- Bhimji, Evelina Stanford-Garcia, Emma C. Stanford, Mable Martin, and Sharon Barriere; special friends Jay and Elaine Bangle, Mable Stanford, Robert and Erica Arthur, Ron Mercle, Carole and Patrick Williams; close family Debra Bricham, Gloria Crookshank, Mae Collins (Marion), Mike Turner (Tonya), Yvonne Thomas, and Shreita; a host of other nieces, nephews, the Galveston community and surrounding areas.

Matthew will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to Michael Jackson and the St Vincent House, Mainland and M D Anderson Hospitals nurses and staff.

The family is inviting you to come share your expression of Matthew’s life with them at a special wake service from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 8th at the Avenue L Baptist Church.

A service to commemorate his life will be held at the St. Vincent House (2817 Postoffice) on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Jackson officiating and the Rev. Paul Wehner as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
