E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary
Eugene Jones,91, received eternal rest on Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Los Angeles, CA.
Gene was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Houston, TX and was a 1938 graduate of Central High School. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Gene was also a 32nd Degree AF&AM mason, member of the Retried Teachers Association, retired chef from UTMB and a faithful member of the Live Oak Baptist Church for 72 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leola Jones; grandson, Elmo Williams, and brother, Charles.
He is survived by his sister, Delores Hawkins; daughter, Kenneth Mae Williams; niece, Carolyn Morris (Edward); grandson, Keith; three great grandchildren; host of cousins, friends, and the Wynne, Dotson families and his Live Oak church family.
Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Saturday April 18th followed by funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Avenue L Baptist Church with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Vernon L. Baines officiating. Burial will be held on Monday, April 20th at 10 :45 am in the Houston National Cemetery.
