Houston International Festival 2009
Opening Ceremony

City of Houston officials, representatives of the Houston Consular Corps and the news media turned out for the opening ceremony of the Houston International Festival today at the Houston City Hall reflection pond. Television news anchors Greg Hurst, of KHOU-TV Channel 11; Isiah Carey of KRIV-TV Channel 26; Bill Balleza of KPRC TV Channel 2; Osvaldo Corral of KXLN-TV Channel 45 and Tom Koch of KTRK-TV Channel 13 were the masters of ceremony. The audience was welcomed by the Sister Cities International Children's Parade followed by the National Anthems of Ireland and the United States.

Sidney Berger, chair of the Houston Festival Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, introduced the Honorable Martin Rouine, the consul general if Ireland.  Houston Mayor Bill White also made remarks at the ceremony.

Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting to open the festival, the Cass Academy of Irish Dance gave a preview of the group's performances that will be featured at the festival. Video (This may take a while to load) is providing extensive coverage of the iFest again this year. Click Here
