Elray Julius Edwards
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary
Elray Julius Edwards, 85, departed this life at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.
Elray was born October 8, 1923, in Galveston to Elray and Mary Stanley Edward. He attended school in Galveston and later joined the US Navy serving during World War II and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home he became a merchant seaman by trade and was a member of the N.M.U..
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, and one sister.
He is survived by his daughters: Cheryl Payne of Hayward, CA and Lettie W. Holden of Philadelphia, PA; 7 grandchildren; one great grandchild; stepchildren: Barbara Winston (Theodore) of Texas City; Sadie C. Castano (Henry); Reginald Campbell both of Galveston; Sheila Christian of Philadelphia, PA; good friends: Abner “Smokey “ Addison, Jr. and Vera Dever both of Galveston.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Houston National Cemetery.
