Jim Guidry Commentaries Hurricane Ike Remembered
In Remembrance
Bernice Cranston
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Bernice Cranston, an admitted BOI, died peacefully at home on April 30, 2009.

Bernice was born September 17, 1919, in Galveston, Texas.  She retired after 41 years of faithful service to the Bay Area Council, Boy Scouts of America as its Office Manager.  From day one, September 16, 1942, Bernice just tried to do her job, nothing special, or outstanding, just managing the office.   In fact, in the first years when the Council office was located in a three-room office suite of the Trust Building, she did all the office work, from keeping the books, registering scouts, operating the press machines to mailings and secretarial duties.  She did it all!

During the years after her retirement, Bernice worked with Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Women’s and Altar Societies there; read good books; and played bridge with her sister, Frances Howard, and other friends.  She also volunteered doing office work at Our Daily Bread, where she made many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 7, 2009, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm.  Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Niall Nolan as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
