Bereavement Support Groups

open to anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one

What is grief? It’s a time in our lives that none of us want to experience, but which we all have to face at one time or another. Despite its inevitability, many find that grief can be a difficult subject to talk about. No one wants to face the fact that the death of a loved one changes everything; that in many ways life will never be the same again.

Those who love us don’t want us to suffer; they want everything to “return to normal,” and may try to rush us through the grieving process. The task for those who are grieving is finding a new normal, a process that can take much longer than anticipated.

That’s the time when Hospice Care Team’s Grief Support Groups can be most helpful. In order to fully serve the needs of those who are grieving throughout the Bay Area, we will offer our 6-week “Hands Together” groups in Galveston, Clear Lake, Dickinson, Alvin and Lake Jackson this Summer.

Each Tuesday, beginning June 2nd, a group series will be offered at the following locations:

*          Alvin  - Alvin Community Center - 10:30 a.m. to12 noon

*          Dickinson –Holy Trinity Episcopal Church – from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

*          Lake Jackson – Carriage Inn Retirement Community – 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

*          Clear Lake - Gloria Dei Lutheran Church - 7:00p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Each Wednesday, beginning June 3rd, groups will also be offered at:

*          Galveston - Edgewater Retirement Center at Moody House - 10:30 to 12 noon.

The group series is open to anyone in the community who has had a loss, regardless of whether their loved one was on hospice service. The groups are offered free of charge, but since space is limited, it is recommended that you call in advance to register.

For further information, or to register for HCT’s grief support groups, please call Rebecca Deaton, Director of Bereavement Services at 800-545-8738.
