August Ernest "Bud" Wegner, Jr.August Ernest "Bud" Wegner, Jr., 82, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Friendship Haven Care Center in Friendswood, Texas.

 

Bud was born August 19th, 1926 in Galveston, Texas.  He graduated from Ball High School, worked at Todd Shipyard, and served in the Navy during World War II.  He was stationed at Pearl Harbor after the Japanese attacked in 1941.  After the war, he was employed with Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1985. 

 

Bud was a very athletic person.  His favorite pastime was fishing, but, he would never pass up a game of golf or a hand of cards.  Another hobby he was enthusiastic about was his cows down the island.  Bud was a very strong family man.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up. 

 

Bud was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Sonny Wegner & wife, Rhonda; daughter, Vicki Heath & husband, Mike; stepchildren: Lisa Manuel, Carol & David Vain; 4 grandsons: Cary & wife Amy, Clete & wife Lisa, Kenny & fiancé Debbie Jones, Kody and Mike Heath Jr.; great-granddaughter, Sydney; great-grandson, Hayden; two sisters, Roseann Riley & husband, Calvin; and Doris Reed & husband, John; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Bud’s family will receive visitors at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 30th, at First Lutheran Church.  A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon at the church with Pastor David Hoh officiating.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 2415 Winnie, Galveston, TX 77550, or to the charity of your choice.
