Houston Mayor Bill White today announced the 2009 Freedom Over Texas With Fireworks Presented By Shell celebration that will be free to the public this year beginning at 4 p.m. on the Fourth of July in Eleanor Tinsley Park. News Release Fact Sheet

White said the event will be a "fantastic American celebration" honoring "Houston's Heroes", including members of the military and the astronauts of NASA, "which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the historic Apollo XI Lunar Landing".
The outdoor festival will feature "a star-spangled performance" by country music star Clay Walker and "the largest land-based fireworks show in the nation".
Others who spoke at the news conference were Hasting Steward, vice president of the Shell Oil Company Foundation; Doug McGraw, marketing manager of Silver Eagle Distributors, LP; Richard Jennings, senior manager, community relations and contributions for KBR; and Victor Howard, senior director of marketing and customer care for Gexa Energy.
