Volunteers needed for City’s annual Independence Day event
Each year, the City of Pasadena’s annual 4th Fest proves to be a spectacular community celebration, and the volunteers who help run the event usually find that they love being in the middle of such a fun occasion.
“We always have wonderful volunteers who help us out with this event,” Volunteer Pasadena manager Lesley Peckham said. “Often, once someone volunteers at the 4th Fest, they find a job they like and then they keep coming back year after year.”
This year, the event will feature more games and some new attractions, so the Volunteer Pasadena program still has openings for people who want to be a part of the action.
The 4th Fest, which will be held on Saturday, July 4 at the Pasadena Convention Center, begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m., but volunteers can help earlier or later in the day. For example, people interested in helping with the 4th Fest’s annual car show, which needs volunteers to help register, park and judge entrants, can start assisting at 1 p.m. but will be finished by 7:30. Anyone interested in working later in the day, however, might find it more convenient to help with the Kid Zone, hayrides, information booth or hospitality area, which all need volunteers to work until 9 p.m.
Peckham emphasized the flexibility for all of the event’s volunteers, explaining that there are opportunities suitable for almost anyone with any interest and any schedule. She said there are opportunities to work indoors or outdoors, and shifts are available.
“We need people to assist with children’s games, hand out prizes or water, ride along on hay rides, give out information – all sorts of things. We can find a good match for anyone,” Peckham said.
Lunch, dinner and a t-shirt will be provided for all volunteers. For more information, contact Volunteer Pasadena at (713) 475-7259.
