Elvia Mickles, 97, received her reward of eternal rest on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Oceanview Transitional Center in Texas City.
Mrs. Mickles was born December 1, 1911, in Crockett, Texas. A long time resident of Galveston, she was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she was a member of the adult choir, Starlight band, baptismal committee, and mission and also worked with the young adults until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Mickles; sisters, Willie Doris Geary, Terecia Tillman and Beatrice Alexander; brothers, Earl Cooper, Sr. and Raymond Cooper.
She is survived by her sisters, Routine Warner of Huntsville, AL, Fisher Wynn of Post Texas; devoted nieces, Doris Levine (Marion) of Houston, Sandra Thomas (Reginald), and Ruby Tillman ( Edward); brother in law , Rev. Freddie Tillman; host of other nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
Viewing will begin at 9AM on Monday June 22, 2009, followed by a service of celebration at 11:00 AM at the Avenue L Baptist Church with her pastor Rev A.S. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview cemetery.
