Bernice “Shorty” Scott

Bernice “Shorty” ScottMr. Bernice “Shorty” Scott left his earthly home on June 27, 2009.  Shorty, as he was affectionately called, was born in La Grange, Texas October 28,1928 to George and Paralee Scott. 

He professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church in La Grange.  He graduated from Randolph High School in La Grange as Salutatorian of his class.  He moved to Galveston County in the early 1950’s and united with the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. Soon after, he married the love of his life Geraldine Shiloh Scott.  To this union one son was born, Rickey. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and was Honorably Discharged. Upon returning home he was employed at Union Carbide where he retired after 43 years of service. 

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers – Eugene, Charles, Cleo and George Scott Jr., three sisters – Carrie Collins, Bessie Williams and Mildred Collins. 

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Geraldine Scott; a devoted son Rickey Scott ( Jacqueline) and grandson Garrick of Texas City;  two brothers – Floyd (Mary Lee) Scott Sr. of Houston, TX., and Lloyd (Elnora) Scott of Altadena CA..  He is also survived by two sisters – Lula Mae Daniels of Texas City, TX. and Doris Jones of San Antonio TX.; two sisters-in-law - Sadie Scott of Columbus, TX. and Norma Carter of CA; one brother-law – Robert Williams of Texas City, TX., a special niece, Debra Shiloh of League City, TX. and his extended family Mable Britton of La Marque, TX. and Calvin Britton of League City TX.. 

Visitation will be held today from 4 to 7 pm at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary.  A Celebration of Life will be held Friday July 3, 2009, at 1:00 pm at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church (302 N. Oak, Texas City TX. 77591) with Pastor D. N. Benford Sr. officating. He will be laid to rest in Hayes Grace Memeorial Park Cemtery in Hitchcock, TX.
