Margaret Kennie

Margaret KennieOn May 15, 1924, a beautiful baby girl was born to Walter and Mammie Webb Dixon of Grimes County, Texas. The name given to her was Margaret, who was the youngest of six children. At the age of three, Margaret was rear by her parent’s dear sister and brother in Christ, Virginia Dickson (known as Jennie Bell) and husband Loftin, until she graduated from school as valedictorian of her class. Margaret was blessed with two mother and two fathers. She asked her mother (Virginia) to nickname her Topsie, which she was known by all of her family and friends.

She later moved to Galveston with her husband, Nathaniel Kennie. She was a member of First Union Baptist Church for over 68 years and also was a member of White Rose Grand Chapter O.E.S..

Topsie received her reward of eternal rest on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at her residence.

Waiting for her to join them in heaven are both sets of her parents; husband; three sisters and one brother.

Forever loving her spirit is her children: daughter Neta J. Millican (Billy) of La Marque, TX; sons: Nathan Kennie, Jr. (Carolyn), Ira Kennie (Pauline Williams), Willard Kennie (Patti Steven), James E. Kennie, Sr. (Doris Scott) all of Galveston; sister, Martha E. Jones; brother and sisters in law: Booker T & Myrtle Paulhill; Columbus & Vera Robinson; Dorothy Toliver; Christine Jenkins, and Pearline Williams; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, special cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2009 followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM at First Union Baptist Church (11th & Ave. K) with Pastor David L. Everson, Sr. officiating. She will be laid to rest by her beloved Nathaniel, in Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, TX.
