Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Mamie Elvira CanoMamie Elvira Cano age 97 of Galveston passed away quietly Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Funeral services are 10:00am Monday, July 27, 2009 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with Reverend Gerald Westerbuhr officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday at 8:00am until service time.

Mamie was born May 9, 1912 in Markhan, Texas to John Andrew Dyke and Olga Augusta Saman Dyke. She was a longtime Galvestonian, and member of First Lutheran Church.

She was the co- owner and operator of Al’s Café for over 30 years with her husband Albert Cano who preceded her in death.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, step son, Ruben G. Cano and step daughter, Alice Santos;, survivors include, sons, Richard Cano and wife Sonhye, Edward Cano and William Cano; grandsons, Stephen, John, Kevin, Allan and Jonathan Cano; granddaughters, Melissa, Lisa and Ashleigh Cano; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
