Diana E. Dundee passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Mainland Center Hospital. She was born in Galveston on April 26, 1921, the daughter of George and Mary Ellen Smith Dundee. She lived all of her life on the Island and in the home her grandparents built after the 1900 storm until the time she located to a personal care home on the Mainland. Aunt Di was a sweet, gentle person and a lover of animals. She delighted in being with her siblings and their children; she was everyone’s favorite aunt. Diana was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the church being a large part of her life.
Diana was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary Blakeman, Charles Dundee, George Dundee, and Margaret Doherty. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joyce Dundee and Zoeanne Dundee. She is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews and their children.
Diana’s family is particularly appreciative of the loving care given by her care-giver of eight years, Gertrude Richardson. Mrs. Richardson and her husband, Kirk, were truly angels in the eyes of Diana and her family.
The family will celebrate Diana’s life at 10:00 am Monday, July 27th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Father E. J. Stein as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.
