Joseph Lee (JoJo) Gonsoulin

Joseph Lee (JoJo) Gonsoulin, 61, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009, peacefully at home with his family and friends by his bedside.

 

His family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 13th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  A memorial tribute will be held at 6:30 pm.

 

Memorial service will be 10 am, Friday, August 14th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

 

JoJo was born September 4, 1947, in Galveston, TX.  He was a proud BOI who spent his younger years on the East End.  JoJo served in the US Marine Corps and worked as a boilermaker with Local #132, retiring in 1997 after over 30 years of service.  He was a member of VFW Post 880, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.  On many days you could find JoJo and his wife entertaining their many friends.  He never met a stranger and treated his friends like family.  He leaves behind many memories with his two daughters.  JoJo enjoyed fishing with friends, taking his grandchildren out on his boat, playing cards and shooting craps.

 

JoJo was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Joseph Gonsoulin; aunts, Cecilia Monroe, Margaret McMasters, Lorraine Thibodeaux; uncles, Raymond Gonsoulin, Jr. and Richard Gonsoulin; and children, Lauren Kay and Kirk.

 

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Gonsoulin; daughters, RoxAnne Mejia-Ellison and husband, Lance; JoLena Gonsoulin-Perez and husband, Emanuel; sisters, Yvonne Camp and husband, Bob; and Carol Gonsoulin; sister-in-law, Joan Zapata and husband, Jesse; grandchildren: Emanuel Joseph Perez, JaBari Lee Ellison, Falyn Perez, and Tatiana Perez; special niece Jean Marie Schmidt; dog, Cisco; and cat, Midnight; and numerous other relatives and friends.

 

Pallbearers will be Mike Mejia, Julius (Nuni) Mejia, III, Lance Ellison, Emanuel Perez, Jason Paysee, Jesse Zapata, Brandon Parker, and Mat Jennings.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Flick, Charlie Stout, Mathew Jennings, Joe Socias, Tommy Verkin, Jimmy O’Hara, Joe Jones, Jeff Heath, Rusty Bearden, R.J. Gonsoulin, Tony Socias, Roy Jones, Joe Cruz, and Mike Finnegan.

 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 570127, Houston, TX 77257-0127.

 

To all JoJo’s friends and family, thank you for your support and prayers.  A special thanks to Nurse Linda Moore and the Hospice Care Team for their care and support.  A special thanks to the members of the Alpha Battery 1/11 Marine Regiment who came from all across the US to make him smile in his last days.  God Bless.  Semper Fi.
