Brazoria County Commissioners Court today voted 2-3, with County Judge Joe King and Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh in favor and Matt Sebesta, Dude Payne and Stacy Adams opposed, to deny adoption of a personnel policy to put in place a hiring freeze.
The policy would have required the approval of the commissioners court before posting, hiring or appointment of replacements for vacant positions.

State law now allows for prohibiting the use of devices such as cell phones in school zones, with the exception of hands-free devices or emergencies. However, local governments must pass a resolution and post notice to enforce the rules.
