Frances Smith, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. She was born May 7, 1919 in Galveston, Texas.
Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband, William and her parents, Adele and Herbert Thormahlen. She is survived by her sons, William Smith Jr. of Galveston, Herbert “Bubba” Smith and wife Cheryl of Galveston; daughters, Margaret Barbick and husband John of Miami, Florida, Clare Armstrong and husband John of Texas City; sister, Ruth Brennan of Friendswood; grandsons, Michael Barbick and wife Ashley of West Palm Beach, Florida, Chris Barbick of Miami, Florida; granddaughters Anne Zamora and husband Anthony of New Jersey and Christy Armstrong of Texas City; numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends.
Frances was a graduate of St. Patrick’s elementary school and Ursuline Academy in Galveston. She was a very active member in the Ursuline Academy Alumni Association. During her early years, she was employed at U. S. National Bank where she met her future husband. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church at St. Patrick’s and Sacred Heart Parishes.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1 at 5:00 p.m. at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston with a rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Galveston, burial to follow at New City Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Brennan, Eugene Brennan, Chris Barbick, Tom Cooper, Grant Mock and Bruce Boening.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Sandra Thomas, Linda Tillman and Shawntal Grant for the love and care they gave to Frances during the last few years.
Frances was a very loving and caring person who embraced her friends and family and lived life to the fullest.
In lieu of flowers, Frances would have wished that donations be made to the Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund, Ursuline Sisters Development Office, 353 S. Sappington Rd., Saint Louis, MO. 63122-6331 or the St. Patrick’s Building Fund.
