Bessie Mae Caldwell

Bessie Mae Caldwell was called home to glory on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at
UTMB Hospital in Galveston.

She was born on March 9, 1943, to the late Bertha Crockett, where she accepted Christ at an early age at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She attended school in Galveston and was 1962 graduate of Central High School. She was a member of Shiloh AME Church. Bessie dedicated 14 years of service to GISD, where she worked as a Security Officer and Assistant Director to the Pep Squad Team.  She enjoyed both positions as they fulfilled her love of working with children.  She was the founder of the Texas Intercity Football, Inc. (TIFI), Galveston Hurricanes/Whirlwinds (Whirlettes) youth football,  drill and cheer teams. This venture allowed her to continue to carry out and fulfill her love for working with, teaching and loving her community, she served as the Booster Club's president from the time of its conception in 1993 until 2004 when her health would not allow her to dedicate the time and devotion she knew it deserved. Up until the time of her homegoing, she still remained a major factor in the organization.

Bessie is preceded in death by her mother, grandmother, Bessie Ford; brothers, Will Crockett and Gerald Ruben; sister, Emma Jordan, and sister-in-law, Veronica Crockett.

Left to cherish loving and precious memories are her husband, Clarence; sons, Eddie (Yolanda), Warnell (Victoria); stepchildren, Clarence (Jackie), Dorinda (Chanceya), Roslyn (Paul), Natalia (Chris), Clarinda, and Kimberly; brothers, Johnny Crockett and John Ruben; sisters, Linda "Sue" Dixon, Marie Taylors, and Tessie (Dr. Milton Howard);  uncle, Nathaniel Ruben; aunts, Jennie Hurks, and Debbie (Dr. Wylie Sutton); grandchildren, "Lil " Eddie (Kim), Cesalie, Brittani, Brandi, Jayla, Phillip and Breya; great grandson, Braylin; devoted friends; Edward "Pepper Jr." Benjamin, Florence Bowers, Donzell Lawrence, Celina Smith, Pat Wyles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin 9:30 AM followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Shiloh AME Church Rev. Eric and Myra Billips pastors, Minister Warnell Caldwell  eulogist . Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX.
