The Friendswood Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday appointed board members Robert McCabe and Mike Shaw to serve on an interview committee to select an attorney to represent the district in possible litigation regarding turf at the high school stadium.
"Several proposals have been received from attorneys interested in representing the district," Superintendent Trish Hanks said. "Interviews to select an attorney would be scheduled for later this month."
The school board took no action regarding advertising on school buses in Friendswood. An advertising firm, Alpha Media Ads, has agreed to pay the district 50 percent of its net advertising revenues generated from bus advertisements, according to district administration.
"It is anticipated that the district could generate $15,000 in additional revenue for the remainder of 2009-2010 and as much as $40,000 in revenue in 2010-2011 as the program grows," Hanks said.
The district will consult with its insurance agent to determine if current insurance coverage is sufficient for the agreement. The district will also consult with its attorney regarding an indemnity clause. The item will be considered again in December.
The school board voted unanimously to approve the 2010-2011 school calendar.
The school board elected officers for the 2009-2010 year. Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg was re-elected as president of the board, and Denise Ruiz was re-elected as vice president. Tony Hopkins was elected to serve as secretary, replacing Brandon Burris.
All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
