Historic Lynchburg Ferry to be Lit for Holidays
Seventh Year for the Precinct Two Tradition
Harris County Precinct Two Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia will be joined by Santa Claus, musicians from local schools and volunteers handing out refreshments at the annual Lighting of the Lynchburg Ferry Monday night November 30, 2009.
The event, begun in 2003, has grown each year thanks in part to the sponsorship of the engineering firm of Bury & Partners. Refreshments will be provided by The Monument Inn and handed out by volunteers from The Pilot Club of Highlands. Photos with Santa will be provided courtesy of Portraits of Texas.
“I am so excited that this simple idea of a holiday lighting ceremony on the Monday night following Thanksgiving has grown into a tradition for east Harris County,” Garcia said. “We hope to see lots of smiling faces as this will also be an opportunity for photos with Santa.”
The celebration will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the actual lighting immediately following sunset.
The band from Goose Creek ISD’s Memorial High School and the choir from Galena Park ISD’s Sam Houston Elementary School will provide entertainment.
The event is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30th at the North Landing of the Lynchburg Ferry which is located at 1001 Independence Parkway North.
