DOWNTOWN To be site of 8thannual Christmas festival, street parade 

The City of Beaumont and the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce invite everyone to celebrate the holidays Downtown from Thursday, December 3 through Sunday, December 6, at Beaumont’s Eighth Annual Christmas Holiday Festival & Parade.

In addition to annual favorites such as the public skating rink, 5K fun run and street parade, this year’s festivities will include a lighted boat parade along Riverfront Park. The 2010 Lamar University Football Team will serve as parade marshals. The City will kick off the festivities on Thursday, Dec. 3, with the official tree-lighting ceremony.

“We are so excited about the lineup for this year’s event,” said Mayor Becky Ames. “With the addition of the lighted boat parade, and with Lamar’s football team leading the way, we think this will be a truly fun and exciting celebration.”

Thursday, December 3

4-8 p.m. —A Very Merry Main Street Market. Located inside the Beaumont Civic Center, 701 Main Street. Admission is $5, which is good for the entire weekend, and parking is free.  Plenty of vendors will be on hand. Sponsored by the Junior League of Beaumont. 5-10 p.m. —Holiday Skating Rink.  The skating rink will be located between the Julie Rogers Theatre, 765 Pearl St., and the Public Library. Cost is $3 for children 18 and younger and students, and $5 for adults. The cost includes skates.  Scheduled skate times are:  Thursday and Friday, 5 - 10 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sunday 12 - 6 p.m.  Information: Beaumont Civic Center at (409) 838-3435, Ext. 1.

6 p.m. —Official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The museum grounds will be the site of this year’s tree lighting. Representatives from the Fire Department will place the star on the city’s tree, and Santa will be there too. A local choir will set the stage. Skating will be free from 5 to 6 p.m. Information: Beaumont Civic Center, (409) 838-3435, Ext. 1.  

6:30 p.m. – FREE outdoor movie. Enjoy a Christmas-themed and child-friendly movie, “Polar Express”, on the Art Museum grounds.  

Friday, December 4

Saturday, December 5

8 a.m. — 5K Jingle Bell Fun Run/Walk. Registration for this event starts at 8 a.m. at Crockett Street, where participants will be given a map of the route.  Pre-registration forms are available at both YMCA locations or may be downloaded at  www.ymcabeaumont.org. Contact Paula Gresham at (409) 842-5550 for more information.  Event sponsored by YMCA.

2 to 4 p.m.—Children's Holiday Party in Downtown Museum District. FREE This popular event will be held at 600 Main St., between the Texas Energy Museum and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. There will be hands-on art activities for the kids. Entertainment will be provided by the Fire Department Band, and Santa Claus will also make an appearance to help with a special tree lighting ceremony for the kids. Information: (409) 880-3927.

4 to 10 p.m. —Live entertainment. FREE Enjoy live music on stages located outside the Julie Rogers Theatre and in Riverfront Park.

5 p.m.—Street Parade. FREE  The Beaumont Christmas Holiday Parade will fill Main, College, Pearl and Crockett streets with music, lights and candy. The 2010 Lamar football team will lead the parade, and vendors will be located along the parade route selling food and hot chocolate.  For entry regulations or to register a float, call Brandi Miller at the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, (409) 838-6581, Ext. 108.

Sunday, December 6

12 to 6 p.m.— Holiday Skating.  The skating rink will be located between the Julie Rogers Theatre, 765 Pearl St., and the Public Library.  Information: Beaumont Civic Center at (409) 838-3435, Ext. 1.  

1 to 5 p.m. —Live entertainment. FREE Enjoy live music outside the Julie Rogers Theatre.

3 p.m.—Lamarissimo! Holiday Concert. The Lamar University A Cappella Choir and Grand Chorus will put on a great show at the Jefferson Theatre, 345 Fannin St. Information: (409) 880-8144.

3 to 5 p.m.—Fire Museum Open House. FREE The Fire Museum of Texas will host an open house and dessert social. The museum is located at 400 Walnut Street. Information: (409) 880-3927.
