Post-Thanksgiving party set for downtown Saturday night
Bash follows night-time Art Car parade, 3D light show at George R. Brown
HOUSTON – The sky will be aglow downtown Saturday night near the George R. Brown Convention Center for the party crowd looking to get out of the house after Thanksgiving.
Afterglow, as the party has been dubbed, begins at 10 p.m. and continues until 2 a.m. in Hall A of the convention center. The party is the pièce de résistance of an evening that begins with the Illuminated Art Car Parade at 9 p.m. and includes an incredible three-dimensional light show that will be projected onto the front of the convention center.
The Illuminated Art Car Parade and the 3D light show are free to the public. The Afterglow party that follows inside the George R. Brown is a ticketed event. Afterglow tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Party-goers will be able to hobnob with the Art Car artists and get a closeup look at the Art Cars in all their illuminated glory. In addition, bands will be performing on top of car platforms inside the exhibit hall.
Those who want the absolute best view of the parade, which runs the length of the boulevard in front of the convention center, and the fireworks show that follows may want to consider the Balcony Party package. For $150, you get dinner and drinks and entry to one of the balconies at the George R. Brown. Free admission to the Afterglow party is included.
The 3D light show, designed by LD Systems of Houston, will feature visual effects never before seen in this part of the United States, employing technology that will make the exterior walls of the George R. Brown come alive.
