Elenor KovacevichElenor Kovacevich, 87, died peacefully in Katy, Texas, on Friday, December 4, 2009.  She was born in Dallas on January 30, 1922, to Paul and Veska Chushcoff.  Her family moved to Galveston in 1924 and she attended public school in Galveston, graduating from Ball High School in 1938. She always reminisced about growing up on the east end and getting to leave school for lunch at her father’s delicatessen. She went to Draughan Business College and was an accomplished stenographer.  Elenor married the love of her life, Ilija Kovacevich, on September 1, 1940. She worked as a secretary while Ili was in World War II, and upon his return, they began their family.  She was an exceptionally loving wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, playing the piano and sewing. She moved to Katy, TX, following Hurricane Ike and spent the last year of her life there with her family.  She was a life-long member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church in Galveston.

Elenor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ilija, her brother James L. Chushcoff and his wife, Gwen, and her son-in-law Ben Powell.  Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law Victoria and John Dooley of Cedar Park, Texas; her children Marianne Powell and Christine Kovacevich of Katy, Paul and Susan Kovacevich, and Joanne and Ralph Valencia, all of Galveston.  Her grandchildren include Dr. Bethany Powell, Michael and Kimberly Powell, Meredith Powell, Kevin and Ginny Kovacevich (and daughters Rachel, Elissa and Lauren), Kimberly Kovacevich, John Kovacevich, and Allison Baker.  In addition she is survived by her brothers-in-law His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher and Blazo Kovacevich, and sisters-in-law Nathalie Kovacevich, Gertrude Popovich, Vida Rector, Bernice Kovacevich, Joyce McDonald, Barbara Kovacevich and Dorothy Kovacevich, along with numerous nieces and nephews around the country.

Visitation begins at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with the Pomen service at 7:00 p.m. with His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher and Father Serge Veselinovich officiating.  The funeral will take place at Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building or cemetery fund of Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church, 4109 Avenue L, Galveston, TX 77550.

Pallbearers will be Michael Powell, Kevin Kovacevich, John Kovacevich, Randy Chushcoff, Jim Dooley, and Mitchell Kovacevich.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Chuoke, Sr. and John W. Dooley.
