Pearland City Council

Pearland City Council on Monday voted unanimously to authorize filing an application for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, or "SAFER" Grant through the United States Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The city council voted unanimously to approve two applications for SAFER grants. The city council had tabled the applications at a special meeting on December 7.  Both grants will provide for additional staff and volunteers at Pearland's fire department.

The city council voted unanimously to adopt an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. The updated plan was required by regulations set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

During a special meeting following the regular meeting, the city council voted unanimously to approve the final reading of an ordinance amending Planned Development District for Pearland Town Center to add off-site signage and design guidelines. The item was requested by CBL and Associates, Inc., which owns the property. The first reading of the ordinance was approved by unanimous vote earlier in the evening.

The city council tabled action on authorizing City Manager Bill Eisen to enter into a destination marketing agreement with the Pearland Chamber of Commerce.

The city council tabled action on a resolution declaring the Kirby rail route as the preferred passenger route in northern Brazoria County and within the city limits of Pearland.

The city council took no action regarding the Pearland Economic Development Corporation Executive Director. The item was discussed during an executive session.
